We spoke with Elsa about the behind-the-scenes of the collection, and when asked about her creative process, it became clear that Grief’s characterization was spot on: “I’m very visual. I always start with references and build a world before I design anything. It can be an old photograph, a color in nature, a fabric texture, even architecture. Once I know the feeling, the details become very specific. It’s instinctive, but also very intentional,” said the Helsa founder. Elsa’s attentive work ethic and conscious pursuit of nostalgia are precisely what make Montce X Elsa Hosk feel so transportive.

What was your hands-on involvement in the design process for this collection?

I love Montce’s silhouettes. They’re feminine but still feel strong and confident. So this collaboration was really about refining what was already there. Softening a curve, lowering a strap slightly on the shoulder, adjusting where the waist sits so it feels effortless on the body. Then it became about building the mood around those shapes. Sun-washed creams, airy blues, florals that feel natural, like they’ve always belonged in a garden.

It’s clear across all your projects how intentional you are, from chic vintage references to niche retro callbacks. It is on full display here in the Montce x Elsa Hosk capsule collection. What were the creative inspirations behind this Collaboration?

We shot the collection in Malibu, which is a place I really love. It has that quiet, effortless beauty that I’m always drawn to. I’m constantly inspired by vintage European summers, but I like when it feels subtle. I wanted it to feel like a late summer afternoon that just unfolds naturally. Sculpted swim against soft greenery. Pale blue that mirrors the sky. Cream that almost disappears into the light. It’s romantic and a little nostalgic. Slightly dreamlike, but still very real.

How would you describe the colors and patterns we see in this romantic collection?

The palette feels really fresh to me. Creams, pale blues, soft yellow, little hits of cherry. Romantic, but still strong. Nothing feels loud, but it’s not shy either. The florals have personality. Nostalgic and not overly sweet.

What’s your favorite look from the collection?

Ah, it’s so hard to choose. I really love the whole collection. But right now I’m especially drawn to the silky creams and blues.

Where does the Montce x Elsa Hosk wearer vacation? Côte d’Azur, the Amalfi Coast, Montenegro?

All of the above! Côte d’Azur, Amalfi Coast, archipelagos of Sweden. Or just her backyard in Los Angeles. Wherever she goes feels like summer.

What’s their poolside order, beachside read, and sunscreen of choice?

My poolside order right now would probably be pistachio gelato and an iced Coke. Book of choice right now, maybe Wuthering Heights. And sunscreen is nonnegotiable. I always have my SunsolveMD on me !
