Spring in New York always feels like a miracle to me, especially this year, after we’ve just endured a winter of historic snow. For months, getting dressed has felt focused solely on bundling up enough to not dread being outside. I know that sounds dramatic to people who love the cold, but I find there’s something repressive about endless layering. I miss dressing for what I actually like to wear. With warmer days finally within sight, I can’t express how much I’m looking forward to spring, and for dressing in a way that feels more true to me. I love wearing skirts and dresses and flats and kitten heels. The idea of leaving the house without thermal layers feels revolutionary.
As I think ahead to my warm-weather wardrobe, I usually take an anti-trend approach. I like what I like, and if it happens to align with what’s current, so be it. Below, a look at what trends I’m actually excited to wear.
Pointelle
Last year, I wore my Cou Cou pointelle midi dress and tank-top-and-midi-skirt set non-stop, and I can’t wait them back. The fabric is lightweight and breathable; the complete opposite of the thermals I’ve been in all winter.
High Vamp Pumps
One shoe trend that emerged in fall 2025 and will continue into spring 2026 is the high vamp pump. Reformation’s Inez Pump is a perfect example, as is the Club Slipper from Phoebe Philo.
Trench Coats
Every spring, outerwear always comes back to the trench coat; a foundational spring jacket. I trend to prefer a single-breasted style, and I’ve been considering ones from Rue Sophie or vintage London Fog.
Vivid Colors
As someone who mostly wears neutrals, I’ve been surprised by how drawn I am to vivid colors right now. If feels out of your comfort zone, I think the easiest way to approach it is through a single standout piece: a solid-color dress, a sweater, a bag, tights, or even ballet flats.
Oversize Sunglasses
I’ve also already been leaning into oversize sunglasses, specifically the Giada from Chimi, which I can’t stop wearing. While I know I technically look better in smaller frames, there’s something about a statement pair that instantly makes an outfit feel more fun. I’m also eyeing the Camille from Vincent Boulevard when it restocks.
Cardigans
Then there’s the cardigan, which is a piece that doesn’t really feel like a trend because it’s always been a staple in my closet. Still, they were everywhere on the spring 2026 runways, and it felt hard to miss. J.Crew’s black Jackie Cardigan has been a go-to of mine for years, and I’d love to add more from brands like Paloma Wool and Doên.
