It’s a special moment in this beauty-editor household! I’ve managed to maintain my New Year’s resolution past “Quitter’s Day,” or the second Friday in January when around 80% of people abandon their goals. I’m usually proudly part of that majority (a daily meditation practice just won’t stick, no matter how many “Maybe this is my year!” promises I make), but for 2026, I decided to make the objective much more general and thus easier to see through: Commit to slower, softer mornings.

As a type-A editor who checks her email the second she cracks open her eyes and guzzles down an espresso before even glancing at my water bottle (then wonders why she struggles with anxiety), I wanted to try easing into my hectic schedule as opposed to swan-diving into various responsibilities. Sometimes this entails taking a walk around the neighborhood before a morning meeting, or merely taking a few minutes sans screens to breathe and sip on some electrolytes before signing on.
